Textile Artist
Amanda lives and works in the West Waterford countryside, balancing a busy family life along with her horses, dogs and other animals. In 2010 she was awarded FETAC6 in Creative Textiles this led to her continuing to CIT Crawford College of Art and Design and gaining a HTAC8 Special Award in Fine Art Textiles. Her practice up to now has been a combination of highly illustrative machine embroidery and 3D stitch vessels with her inspirations taken from her day to day domestic family life. Recently Amanda has turned her attentions on herself and the meaning of home to her. Observing her children’s experiences as they grow has brought Amanda to reflect on her own childhood and the influences in her early life. Moving into a more sculptural working practice Amanda still retains the illustrative aspect of her work combining found fabrics with textures that evoke memories of her life. Incorporating found objects adds another dimension to her unique 2D work.
